Little Nemo and the Tall Man

I like Winsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland comic strips a lot. Ever since I found out that the whole thing went public domain in 2005, I wanted to work on my own rendition of little Nemo.

Those who know the original comic will recognize the last panel as a direct homage to McCay's work. Of course the rest is heavily inspired by the wonderful Shadow of the Colossus.

Hopefully this is only the first of many. If time allows, I would like to do more of these!

  2. Hah-hah! That is so fantastic! I haven't seen a homage to his works in a long time. :D

Oh my, you are so much better than him at filling your speech bubbles though. I suppose you didn't draw them first like he did. X3

Yeah, I did the lettering first and then drew the word balloons around the text.

  5. No way! I've had the Little Nemo movie since I was a kid and I never knew it was based off a comic strip!

It's really neat to see something I have fond memories of redone like this. Please say you're gonna do more :D

I definitely plan to, but I'll be doing future comics at my own pace.

Of course. :D I can't even imagine doing one comic a week, let alone putting a second one on a schedule. I couldn't finish more than two pages.

Will there be a notice on Fantasy Realms when you get another Nemo done?

Possibly, but I'm not making any guarantees. Your best bet is checking in on my blog occasionally.

I actually post a lot of exclusive doodles and sneak peeks on here.

  11. A friend and I were actually thinking of doing this a few months ago. Seems you've been doing it for a year or so, though, so I can't say it was the most original idea.

Good luck to you on living up to McCay's legacy!

I have no such ambitions! I just want to have some fun while creating a little tribute to one of my favorite comic strips. :)

  15. This is absolutely a wonderful idea. Your illustration here is incredible and I LOVE Little Nemo! I had no idea it was in the public domain. Who are you and how can I see more of your work?
